What Temp Do Mini Splits Stop Working?
When your mini split suddenly stops working, it can naturally cause you to panic.
As efficient as mini splits are, they can only handle temperature extremes to a degree one way or the other.
Should the temps push the mini split further than it can go, then the mini split is either going to reduce operating efficiency[AE1] and capacity or even stop working altogether.
So how cold is too cold for a mini split and how hot is too hot?
Well, that depends on the model.
As with phones, computers, and video game systems, ductless mini splits get better and better as technology evolves and newer models are introduced.
Shortly, we’ll present some of the most extraordinary mini splits that can handle high heat and low, cold temperatures.
On average though, a mini split typically works at temperatures as cold as five degrees Fahrenheit (which is -15 degrees Celsius) and up to 115 degrees Fahrenheit (which is 46 degrees Celsius).
Now, as we said, how efficiently a mini split system will work in the heat or cold will vary by model, so let’s take a look at some mini splits that can push the limits of what’s considered too hot or too cold. These are just some examples for each brand and these results change from unit to unit and can vary depending on models that may be missed in our breakdown.
Senville mini splits: A fixed-speed Senville mini split can work in heat mode between 19 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit or -7 and 24 degrees Celsius. The mini split is operational in cool mode at temperatures of 64 to 109 degrees Fahrenheit or 18 to 43 degrees Celsius.
Daikin mini splits: Most Daikin mini splits have exceptional hot and cold tolerance. In heat mode, the unit can handle temperatures of 5 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit or -15 to 24 degrees Celsius. In cool mode, the temperature range is 50 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit or 10 to 46 degrees Celsius.
MrCool mini splits: If yours is a mini split from MrCool, then in heat mode, the unit can withstand temperatures of 5 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit or -15 to 30 degrees Celsius. Once you switch to cool mode, the accepted temp range is 32 to 112 degrees Fahrenheit or 0 to 50 degrees Celsius.
Pioneer mini splits: The Pioneer in particular has some great temperature tolerances. In heat mode, the mini split operates at temperatures of -5 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit or -20 to 30 degrees Celsius, which is truly amazing. In cool mode, the Pioneer can handle temps between 5 and 122 degrees Fahrenheit or -15 to 50 degrees Celsius.
Fujitsu mini splits: A Fujitsu mini split running in heat mode can typically withstand temperatures between -5 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit or -21 to 24 degrees Celsius, a truly incredible feat. Switching to cool mode, the mini split is good in temperatures of 14 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit or -10 to 46 degrees Celsius.[AE2]
Innovair mini splits: The starting point, is the QUANTUM, 5 ~ 115 F for cooling and -4 ~75 F for heating. On the following family, the PURE, 5 ~ 122 F for cooling and -13 ~ 86 F for heating. The top notch family the ELITE, 0 ~ 129 F on cooling and -22 ~ 75F on heating.
